I’ve installed the thing on my old Linux MacBook, but I’m fucked if I can figure out how to actually get it to work.

Honestly, I couldn’t give tuppenny fuck about background play, or any of the other shit they bundle in. I literally just want to be able to watch YT on my Apple TV without having to suffer through unending adverts, but I’m not prepared to pay those ratfucking shit heads £20+ for the family plan just to be able to do that.

I was happy as shit using my Ukrainian YT Premium account, paying £4 a month to watch videos. It was great. Never used YT Music because I didn’t fucking want to, never had videos playing in the background because I didn’t fucking need to. Then they were all like “Errr, we don’t think you’re in Ukraine so you have to pay us more”. And fuck that noise.

So now I watch the odd video on my laptop on Freetube and have been researching how to run the thing that automatically downloads my subs and adds them to Plex. I’m a dumb shit though, so can’t figure it out.

Meanwhile, my Blue Yeti has a fucked mini USB socket, though in fairness that’s because Blue, in their infinite wisdom, positioned it right next to the mounting insert. It’s remarkably easy to knock the cable against the mount when moving it about.

I have two relatively new microphones that have mini USB, and honestly, I think it’s against the Geneva convention.

Just yesterday I was groping on Mastodon that so much of Linux is done via the command line, which messes me up because I’ve only ever really used OSs with a GUI. Sure, we had a family C64, but my brother would load the games for me. Then we got a ‘proper’ Windows PC, where I stayed until I got my first Mac in ‘07.

I’m not unfamiliar with doing stuff in Terminal, but all I really do is follow instructions I find online.

Out of interest, I just looked up the actual benchmark scores.

A ‘13 Pro with a Xeon 2697v2 scores 4891 on multi core

My 15” M2 MacBook Air scores 9735 on the same.

It’s astonishing how much Apple leapt ahead when the M-series chips dropped. Sure, the Intel machines on macOS still have their uses, (I’m typing this on a 2014 Mac mini that I use for work), but Apple have done an incredible job of flooding the market with solid hardware to install Linux on.

They’re almost down to a price where I’d consider picking one up just because I think they look awesome, and are reasonably easy to max out their spec. Trouble is, that maxed out spec might tip its benchmarks over my M2 Macbook. Might.

I reckon it’s been a good ten years since I had a data cap on my home internet. These days I pay £30 a month for unlimited 900mbps fibre and it’s wonderful.

I remember OnLive. I was waiting for it to become usable, then…nothing.

And longevity. I have a 2011 MBP thats now running Debian and is still a tank. I’ve had two MacBooks since I got it but the damn thing refuses to die.

My daily laptop is an M2 Air which is ridiculously powerful for my needs, so when Apple drop OS support for it I’ll put Asahi on it and keep it trucking until the wheels fall off.

And that 2011 will still be going.

I play a stupid colour matching game on my iPad that’s almost scientifically designed to try and rinse money out of users’ pockets, but I’ve got to a place where I see the offers and last chances and know that even if I did pay for a few boosts or power ups, it’s not going to bring me enlightenment.

That’s not to shit on OP’s point, mind. Microtransactions really are a menace, preying on those who are least able to ignore them, who are often least able to afford them. But it’s a world we’ve kinda made by not wanting to pay for games.

That said, how much is WoW these days? Paying a monthly fee AND getting bombarded with ways to spend more money is straight-up cunty.

Oh yeah, I agree. I really only chose Samsung because they’re one of the very few companies with the same kind of market presence as Apple.

As someone who has recently begun dipping in to Linux and trying to figure it all out, I agree with this.

I feel like if Samsung or someone embraced Linux in the way Apple have macOS, it could very easily become a serious contender to Windows. But I guess no one could trust Samsung to not fuck it all up and make it a proprietary fork that would end up having nothing to do with Linux.
