Destiny 2 delivered its final major story DLC, concluding the epic length story that they had been building up since they first released Destiny and started the franchise. But recently, new information was revealed about bungie’s decision making process, and how they spend their revenues for Destiny 2. In short, they have been using most of the funding for Destiny 2 and stealing it from the players, in order to develop something entirely different. They have supposedly been working on some sort of dumb extraction shooter that no one asked for and almost no one is excited about. Because we don’t have enough extraction shooters currently, right? And every single one that we have been delivered has been such an extraordinary success, I bet! /s
This is actually really troubling, because if you look deep enough into what they are saying, you start to realize that they weren’t even trying to deliver a good experience for Destiny for many years now. By taking most of the funding that players have been providing them through absurd microtransactions and season passes, purchasing DLCs, and instead of investing that back into the game, they have been wasting this money the entire time on another game that has little to no buy-in by their players. That to me is crazy. Like, truly absurd if you think about it.
Here’s an example of how crazy this is. Say you’re going to college and you’re paying college tuition every year, or you’re just a benefactor of the college giving them millions of dollars of endowment to improve and enhance the college experience. But instead, the college chooses to build a water park. Is this water park available to the students of the college? Well, no. But it’s next to the college! So they’re taking all the money that is supposed to be used for the college, and they’re just squandering it on something else completely different, and so the college starts going to shit and becoming worse every single year, and they complain publicly and claim that it’s because of how difficult it is due to the struggling economy, and the climate And overall nature of business today. When in reality, it’s because they are taking all that money and completely wasting it on something that no one realizes they are wasting it on
This is Bungie, as a gaming company, and the board of directors started to realize that and I can tell you right now as someone who is very familiar with how bored of directors work for big companies, they are probably saying “What the actual fuck are you doing? You’re taking your only source of income from a very loyal group of consumers, and wasting it on something that has nothing to do with what they care about.”
So yeah, it’s kind of amazing to think about how horribly gamers are being screwed over by Bungie.
What do you mean by Destiny 2 funding? Like people paying for the game and such?
