Depending on the flavor of Christian, they’d generally argue that the “Holy Spirit” is still here. Part of the trinity and thus fully God, while not being the entirety of God, or something along those lines.

If Jesus is god and god will return god is absent from the earth. Christians have been abandoned by god
Unless God is here is jesus is not and that means jesus is not god. Christians are worshiping something that isn’t god. Christians have abandoned god.
