It’s not even that long & it would’ve been fun to have a roadtrip. Flew the jet for ~1h instead. Useless pollution.

I’ve never met someone that wealthy, but wealth is way more relative than lower, middle and higher classes.

The wealthier people I’ve met kind of like to brag about their money. I’ve always guessed that is the way they behave among themselves. It’s never a direct competition about their wealth, it’s always a package of actions and prepositions from where anyone should or could conclude they are wealthy. Kind of passive-aggressive.

Maybe your friend is trying to do their wealthy people thing with you, guys, because that’s what he knows to do. Maybe you have to have a bit of patience with this friend. I get it, I’m poor, so they make so little sense to me. I just hope you can work it out, and remember, maybe that’s all they know, that’s why university is so important to those privileged enough to attend.

Half the fun of trips like that is the trip itself. See an interesting building or landmark along the way? Go check it out. Have an available seat? Pick up a hitchhiker.

48 hours in a weekend; you lose 16 sleeping, 32 awake hours.

2 hours for travel is 6% of your weekend

6 hours for travel is 19% of your weekend

I thought they would have went there with their own car, but nope, even worse.

Can’t stand to travel with the poors I guess.

        Interesting! Thanks for the source.

It looks like short haul flights actually produce 12% less emissions than driving.

That is mostly because those numbers take the average occupancy level into account. Cars are rarely driven with a passenger in every available seat.

On top of this, it sounds like he didn’t offer seats on the private jet to any of you guys either? That’s beyond simply evilly out of touch and into the realm of “are we actually friends if you’re willfully taking separate transportation to avoid spending time with the rest of us?”

I could at least comprehend if he wanted to have 4 extra hours with you all at the destination, but if he’s just going to spend the time savings alone that is a massive dick move on top of the already massive dick move.

        Lolwut?

So… you accept a free, private jet ride, step off the plane, then bitch about your friend? The self righteous tone of your post was already giving me the “ick”, but to find out you took the ride anyway just shows you’re more interested in looking like someone who gives a shit, then someone who actually does…

Have you considered that actually refusing to fly with him might have had an effect? Of course he will fly if it allows him to show off to his friends like that. If you want someone to understand that their behavior sucks then you actually have to pull through. Now he thinks “hey looks like when given the choice they do actually prefer flying so i was right from the start”.

Not really. Flights like that can be pretty reasonable, since they’re commuter flights.

And depending on the time, 4 hours in a bus (on the east coast, the North East no less, where congestion is brutal) could consume much of the time available.

I wouldn’t fly for this, but it’s understandable, especially if getting to the airport is trivial. It really depends on where said friend lives and time to the airport etc.

Unless you’ve driven through that area, you really have no idea what it’s like. I’ve done it many times for work, and you can’t pay me to get on those roads today, let alone in a bus. It’s like LA or the Bay Area in California, so congested that rush “hour” is all day.

Thats crazy, cant even imagine what their lives look like. We out here budgeting our monthly incomes and barely stay afloat, while others nonchalantly take a private jet when public transport would work just fine.

Though there has to be more to this story. Chartering an entire private jet costs like a few thousand to 15,000 dollars for an hour. You can do this twice a week on that budget. Or buy lots of fancy food, electronic gadgets and gucci bags, maybe even cars. But don’t you quickly run out of space to put them? So how would someone spend 100k?

Designer clothes / jewelry / watches sprees. Those things can be crazy expensive. A haute couture outfit can easily run for $100K or more. Not even talking about jewelry and watches.

Ah, yeah I forgot about watches and jewelry. Guess you can buy a lot of them and they won’t take up that much space. I’d stick with one or two of them, though. Make it a very nice one you really like and wear it all the time. IMO it doesn’t really help if you get 20 half-nice watches and keep 19 of them in one of your multiple wardrobes, that’s just hoarding stuff… Same applies to shoes, albeit you might be allowed to get a few more pairs of them. But what do I know…

Thought for a minute you meant they drove instead of taking the bus or train and I’m like “Yeah, about the same to Seattle I don’t… OH. OH!”

By the time you get to the airport early, get through the lines, get through security theater, all the time you save is lost.

Yeah, even a car wouldn’t have been the most horrible choice in comparison. And those are fun, while not as fun as a train where you can all partake instead of one having to drive. Unless it’s just the two of you, then a car would be a waste and also not very fun since the other’s focused on driving.

It looks like the wealthy friend flew instead of driving down or taking the bus down with their friends. They’re upset because it’s just more useless pollution and a loss of time that the friend group could have spent together having a good experience.
